J. William Appling and Associates was founded by Bill Appling, a national speaker and writer. Bill and his company have spoken and worked with medical organizations nationally on "Technology to Clinically Integrate Medical Practices with other medical stakeholders and clinical research groups.
Bill has spoken locally, regionally, and nationally with physician groups concerning the challenges which are continuing into 2007: a flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula, pay-for-performance programs (including one in Memphis currently which involved a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation),economic disparity between health insurers and medical practices and patient safety.

Bill Appling of J. Willaim Appling and Associates has been selected to participate in a grant awarded to the Healthy Memphis Common Table. This $600,000 grant is to be used as a pilot in "Aligning Forces for Quality: The Regional Market Project." The purpose of this is to build and align local forces that support and drive quality improvement for outpatient chronic care. In this project, the focus will be on consumer engagement, provider quality improvement, and performance measurement and reporting. This is one of the few grants this year that has been awarded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Foundation selection is for previous and ongoing support for quality improvement through local, market-based strategies.
